The state widened the highway in front of this property which
necessitated the removal of an approximately 15 year old cedar fence
that was requiring repair. After the highway project was
completed, the owners of this property began seeking a solution that
would offer low maintenance, a long life, and a visual barrier to
the road. Additionally, strength and sound dampening were
desired.
Wood was inexpensive but is not strong, offers little sound
attenuation, and requires regular maintenance and repair.
Vinyl is similar in function to wood but requires less maintenance.
Cost and strength are issues. Masonry walls, whether block and
mortar or formed and poured, are very labor intensive and cost
prohibitive.
The property owners chose this product because it fit all of
the features that they were looking for in a fence - visual and
sound barrier properties in a modular design that reduces
installation labor and therefore is lowered cost than conventional
masonry solutions.
